Ballarat to Adelaide

Day 1 - Day 3

Like most people that are going away for a long period of time the weeks leading up to our Aussie adventure were hectic. Planning on leaving behind a house, dog and business while saying goodbye to family and friends meant we drove out our driveway utterly exhausted albeit excited.

Both Matt and I admitted we were a little nervous driving down the Western Highway unsure of what lay ahead but hearing the news of a tragic, life-threatening accident of one of Matt's bike-riding mates made us realise we were doing the right thing. Life can change in an instant and it's too short to live in the "maybe one day" attitude.

One of the best pieces of advice we have received so far is to ensure the first few days you recharge and that is exactly what we have done. With a number of us battling running noses we have relaxed in Adelaide reading books, watching movies, kicking the footy (and more footy and more footy) and taking afternoon naps.

This is my first trip to Adelaide and while the caravan park is amazing (Adelaide Shores Caravan Park), I find Adelaide a little droll and boring. I'm not sure whether this is because I really despise Port Adelaide FC?! Even the houses all look the same.

Today we toured Adelaide and spent the morning playing hide and seek at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens (7/10), climbed Mount Lofty Summit (5/10) and visited Waterfall Gully (5/10). This evening we went to the Glenelg Marina Bay area (8/10).

I'm trying really hard not to be annoying and I have probably only gotten the family lost about three times so far; that's an average of once a day so not a bad effort.

We've made a few rules so far - no football in the caravan (or within 1 metre of me), morning coffee is the first priority, when watching a sad movie you are allowed to sob as loud as your like and put things away from thieves (my favourite 'queen' chair got stolen on the first night!)

Tomorrow we are on the road again to Port somewhere..... As I planner, I am finding it difficult to drive out of the park with no plans. Instead we will drive and see where we land! It's a little bit like spin the bottle, except we are dressed, in a car and have four kids.
